2018 oscars prediction

The 90th Oscar nominations were already announced on Tuesday morning. The Shape of Water leads the race with 13 nominations in total including Best Picture, Directing, Actress in a Leading Role, and other technical and visual awards. It was followed by Dunkirk with eight nominations, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri with seven nods. The Oscars ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on March 4, 2018. As usual, before the final winners are officially announced, we always make early prediction for the winners mainly based on their performance on other awards, such as the Golden Globes, etc. Now let's get started to find out the full list of 2018 Oscar nominees and the winner predictions.

2018 Oscar Nominations and Predictions

Firstly, let's focus on the top 4 most important awards of the Academy Awards, they are, Actress in A Leading Role, Actor in A Leading Role, Best Director and Best Picture.

frances mcdormandBest Actress - Frances McDormand, "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri"

Nominees: Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water), Frances McDormand (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Margot Robbie (I, Tonya), Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird), Meryl Streep (The Post)

Frances McDormand, Saoirse Ronan and Sally Hawkins are all strong contenders in the Oscars race for best actress. But based on their other nominations and wins, it's easy to spot this year's Oscar Best Actress award would probably go to Frances McDormand as she just won 2018 Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards due to her impressive performance in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Besides, she is also one of the few performers who have achieved the Triple Crown of Acting: an Academy Award, a Tony Award, and an Emmy Award.

gary oldmanBest Actor - Gary Oldman, "Darkest Hour"

Nominees: Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name), Daniel Day Lewis (Phantom Thread), Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out), Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour), Denzel Washington (Roman J. Israel, Esq.)

Considering Oldman just took best actor for The Darkest Hour at Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards, we'd like to give our vote for this 59-year-old actor to his first Oscar win this year. In fact, back to 2012, Gary Oldman was nominated Academy Awards in the same category for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. As for Darkest Hour, he spent more than 200 hours in the makeup chair to become the iconic British politician Winston Churchill. Oldman also said he studied old news reel footage and read clippings to prepare for the role. So far, all the wins of his performance and role in this film have strengthened our faith that he's a lock to win the upcoming Oscar.

the shape of waterBest Picture - "The Shape of Water"

Nominees: "Call Me By Your Name", "Darkest Hour", "Dunkirk", "Get Out", "Lady Bird", "Phantom Thread", "The Post", "The Shape of Water", "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri"

As for this year's Best Picture nominees, it's super premature to pick a favorite in this category since they are almost neck and neck in terms of critics reviews, audience feedback, etc. But if we must pick a front runner, we'd pretty much give our choice to The Shape of Water as it leads the way with bumper 13 nominations for this year's Oscars, placing it ahead of war drama Dunkirk and dark comedy Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri. Also, after nabbing 13 Oscar nominations, The Shape of Water already gained more than $30 million domestic with a 241% jump in sales. And it is positioned to make the most money because, unlike most nominees, its widest break is still ahead.

guillermo del toroBest Director - Guillermo del Toro, "The Shape of Water"

Nominees: Christopher Nolan (Dunkirk), Jordan Peele (Get Out), Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird), Paul Thomas Anderson (Phantom Thread), Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water)

With this year's Oscars, the darkness of horror steps into the spotlight. That's how Guillermo del Toro feels about The Shape of Water collecting a leading 13 nominations for the 90th Academy Awards. He praises Oscars for not being scared off by The Shape of Water and its rival Get Out, marking a new golden age for chilling movies. Apart from being frightening tale, The Shape of Water is also an international story. As fear and magic may simply be a universal language that connects across culture, we would be so delighted if Guillermo del Toro would finally win the Best Directing with the landmark film that combines so many genres emotionally.

Where to Stream 2018 Oscars Nominated Movies

As is often the case, most of this year's Academy Awards contenders were already released late in 2017 while many of the most-nominated films are still in theaters. To watch those early released nominees, you can easily stream them online. Digital stores like iTunes, Amazon, Netflix are the best places to get access to those movies. Here's an updating list of those titles, along with where to stream them:

Amazon: "Dunkirk", "Blade Runner 2049", "Victoria & Abdul", "Loving Vincent", "The Boss Baby"

iTunes: "Dunkirk", "The Big Sick", "Blade Runner 2049", "Victoria & Abdul", "Logan", "Loving Vincent", "Abacus: Small Enough to Jail", "Last Men in Aleppo"

Amazon Prime: "The Big Sick", "Abacus: Small Enough to Jail"

Netflix: "Mudbound", "The Boss Baby", "Icarus", "Last Men in Aleppo", "Strong Island"

As you can see, if you have an iTunes account, you can easily access to most of those Oscar nominees and watch them on your Apple devices. But one thing to be noted is it's no easy job if you want to view the movies on non-Apple devices, like Android phone or tablet. That's because the iTunes movies are encrypted by DRM. Only when you remove DRM lock from those movies, can you transfer them for playing on any device. In case you'll feel frustrated to pick up the right tool for you, we highly recommend TunesKit DRM Media Converter, with which you can completely unlock DRM from iTunes movies and convert the videos to lossless MP4, M4V etc. as you like. For more details, you can visit this guide: How to Losslessly Remove DRM from iTunes Movies.
