I have a 2018 M2 Competition, and have been having trouble with getting the Spotify app to work on iDrive. Now the app doesn't show up at all, even though the Apps box is filled. It's still appearing in the Hub page of the BMW Connected app on my phone, just not on the iDrive.

Many BMW owners complain that Spotify is not showing up on their cars anymore. This issue can be traced back to what BMW said in a statement, "As of July 2020, Spotify no longer supports Apps for Automotive (A4A) for Android devices." According to BMW, the decision is made solely from Spotify's end. More and more BMW owner start running into Spotify BMW not working issue on Android phones, but you still can play Spotify songs in BMW.

How to Connect Spotify to BMW through iDrive

If you're using the older version of BMW Connected, you might still be able to play Spotify on your car, here's how to connect your BMW through the iDrive system.

Step 1: Download and install BMW Connected and Spotify on your phone.

Step 2: Open the Bluetooth feature on your phone. By doing so, your BMW will automatically recognize and connect your phone if you have the Spotify app on your phone.

Step 3: On your BMW, go to MEDIA or ConnectedDrive, the Spotify app will appear there.

Step 4: Select Spotify, now you can enjoy Spotify music on your BMW car.

If the BMW Connected on your car has been updated to the latest version, but you can still use the Android Auto app to connect Spotify to your car.

How to Connect Spotify to BMW with Android Auto

In this part, I'm going to show you how to connect Spotify to your BMW car through the Android Auto app. You can connect your phone to your BMW car with a USB cable or wirelessly.

Connect Spotify to BMW through Android Auto (Wireless)

Step 1: Before you connect Android Auto to your BMW, you need to pair your phone and the car via Bluetooth.

Step 2: Open Android Auto it might take a few seconds to start.

Step 3: Open Spotify on your phone and play a song, it will be played on your car speakers.

Connect Spotify to BMW through Android Auto (with a USB cable)

Step 1: Plug a USB cable into your BMW's USB port and plug the other end of the cable into your Android phone.

Step 2: Your phone might ask you to download the Android Auto app or update to the newest version of the app.

Step 3: Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

Step 4: On your car display, follow the instructions to get started.

Step 5: Play Spotify on your phone, the song will be played on your car speakers.
