Like Spotify Error Code 4, "greyed out songs" is also a common problem that most Spotify users would encounter while listening to Spotify music. Sometimes you may just notice that the songs are occasionally greyed out in search results and the amount of those songs seems to be increasing. At this moment, you won't be able to play the greyed out songs properly. As the causes of such error are various, we are listing the solutions accordingly for you to fix the Spotify songs greyed out issue quickly and easily.

Why are Songs on Spotify Greyed Out (Unplayable)

Whenever there's a song greyed out on Spotify, it simply means Spotify failed to connect to the resource as it's supposed to. The reason could be one of the followings:

1. Country/Region Restriction: The greyed out tracks just mean that for whatever reason, they are unavailable in your country or region. It would have something to do with licensing or the request of the record label or artist. In this case, Spotify doesn't have control over this as it's up to the individual music companies.

2. Connection Error: The problem would appear if the Internet connection is down on your computer, or the Offline Mode is turned on in Spotify desktop app.

3. Network Issue: If you are meeting the greyed out songs issue on mobile devices, you might have improperly turned off the cellular data usage for Spotify.

No matter what reason has prevented you from accessing Spotify songs smoothly, you can try the following fixes to make the greyed out songs available again.

Solution 1. Troubleshoot Your Internet Connection Issue

As soon as you begin to notice that there are some songs greyed out on Spotify, you'd better check the Internet connection on your computer or mobile device firstly.

On Mac/PC:

Step 1. Go to "Network & Internet Settings" on PC (or "Network" on Mac) and clean up Internet barriers.

Step 2. If the Internet connection works fine on your PC, then you are suggested to check whether Spotify has been added into the whitelist of firewall. If not, move it to the firewall exception list.

Step 3. Open Spotify desktop app. Under "Settings", turn the option "Show unavailable songs in playlists" on.

On Mobile Phone:

On cellphone, go to "Settings" > "Cellular". Then scroll down and turn Spotify app on.

Solution 2. Check VPN Network

In most cases, the greyed out songs could be caused by country restriction as they are not supported in specific areas. To solve the problem, you may check whether there's something wrong with the VPN connection on your computer or smartphone.

Step 1. If you are using some paid VPN services, make sure it's not expired yet. Otherwise you should renew it in order to keep using the network.

Step 2. If the VPN works just fine, make sure it's connected to American or European servers, as Spotify streaming music is fully supported in most of America and Europe.

Step 3. If that doesn't help, you may change to another VPN service for a try.

Solution 3. Save & Play Spotify Songs Offline without Internet

As the Spotify greyed out songs have a lot to do with the network connection, it would be better if you could download the Spotify songs so that you can listen to the music offline anywhere without Internet.
