Can I put iTunes movies on a USB stick for playback on my TV?
I'm wondering if there's any workaround to transfer my iTunes movies to a USB drive so that I can play them back on my TV as I don't own Apple TV? I have an 16GB USB stick and a MacBook Pro with the latest iTunes software. My home TV is a Sony Bravia Smart TV with a USB port. Any help will be highly appreciated. - discussions.apple.com.
It's easy to watch almost any movie saved on a USB stick on your home television if your TV has a USB port. All you need to do is plug the USB drive into the TV port and choose the specific movie you want to watch and then press Play. But if the videos you attempt to play are movies or TV episodes from Apple iTunes Store, things will become a little bit more complicated. If you are familiar with Apple's ecosystem or the way they are doing their business, you should know iTunes movies and TV shows have DRM protection which restricts you play the protected videos with Apple's own devices or software. In order to play the DRM'd iTunes videos on any TV set, no matter Sony, Samsung, LG or other Smart TVs via a USB drive, you should follow the detailed solution we arranged for you as below.
Complete Steps to Play iTunes Movies on TV by Using USB Drive
Part 1. Remove DRM Protection from iTunes Movies/TV Shows
Since you can't directly transfer the DRM-protected iTunes M4V video files to USB stick, the very first yet most important step before syncing the iTunes movies to USB for playing on TV is remove DRM from the iTunes movies and TV shows. Here we are talking about TunesKit DRM M4V Converter, a smart iTunes DRM removal tool for both Mac and Windows systems. It's specially developed to losslessly bypass DRM copyright protection from iTunes movies (purchased and rented) and TV shows and convert the DRM M4V videos to common media formats, including MP4, M4V, MOV, AVI, etc.
Before removing DRM from the iTunes M4V, make sure you have the following things and tools prepared:
- * A copy of TunesKit iTunes M4V Converter for Mac or Windows. You can download the proper version from the links below.
- * PC or Mac compatible with TunesKit DRM M4V Converter (Windows XP, Vista, Win 7, 8, 10 & Mac OS X 10.8 or higher).
- * The latest iTunes software being installed and authorized on the computer.
Step 1Import your iTunes M4V files to TunesKit
Click Add Files button and choose the movies or TV shows you want to convert from the drop-down list. After that, click OK and the files will be successfully imported to TunesKit DRM M4V Converter.
Step 2Adjust output settings
Click the Format section and choose the target output format shows in the popup window according to your own needs.
Step 3Remove DRM from iTunes movies
Now click the blue Convert button at the bottom right of the program and begin to convert the DRM-locked iTunes M4V videos to DRM-free formats supported by your TV set.
Part 2. Sync DRM-free iTunes Videos to USB for Playing on Your Smart TV
It will take some time before the DRM is completely removed from the iTunes videos. Normally the conversion speed will be 30X faster than the original time length of the iTunes movie. Once the conversion finishes, you can follow these steps to transfer the non-DRM iTunes movies to a USB flash drive for your smart TV.
Step 1Copy the converted iTunes movies to USB stick
Firstly, plug USB drive to your computer where you convert the iTunes movies. Then copy those DRM-free iTunes video files to the USB from your computer. You can also connect the USB flash drive to the computer and set it as the output folder for the converted iTunes movies before conversion.
Step 2Play iTunes movies on TV via USB
Plug the USB stick to the smart TV's USB port and then you can choose whatever iTunes movie you just converted to play on your smart TV from the USB drive.
